Badrinath Ki Dulhania Singapore Diaries

Bangalore, March 30, 2017: Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan had a gala time shooting in Singapore for Shashank Khaitan's ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’. Here’s what they enjoyed in Singapore.

Gateway to Great Walks

Ask Alia Bhatt, who starred in the recent hit Badrinath Ki Dulhania, to pick her favourite spot in Singapore & pat comes the reply, “Henderson Waves. This was easily the best place we shot at. You get such stunning views of the city!” Portions of the hit track ‘Humsafar’ from the movie were shot here too.

The Henderson Waves Bridge is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. True to its name, the bridge mimics the undulating shape of a wave, curving and twisting along its entire 274-metre length.

Alia wasn’t the only fan of this scenic spot. It is said that the director of the film, Shashank Khaitan, was charmed by Henderson Waves that he chose to bring out its beauty using drone shots, which he says are the highlight of the movie. Another thing which impressed Alia was how cooperative the other visitors were during the shoot as they managed to get their shooting done at the bridge within half a day without facing any hurdles.

Go off the beaten path

Singapore is known for its diverse cuisine & the Badrinath ki Dulhania team got to sample all the myriad flavours that the city is so famous for. The one place that they all loved was Alia Bhatt’s recommendation – House on Dempsey Hill. This warm, homely restaurant became a fast favourite among the team members; especially the Watermelon Coolers, which were a hit with Varun Dhawan.

The team also let us in on a secret – while Alia would catch up on her beauty sleep, after a hectic schedule, Varun & Shashank would secretly make a trip to the restaurant & soak in the tranquil bliss of the Dempsey Hill neighbourhood!

Party the night away

While shooting for Badrinath Ki Dulhania in Singapore, one thing that the team didn’t miss was to party. They were fascinated by the buzzing nightlife of the city. Varun Dhawan & Alia Bhatt were thrilled to discover that one of the clubs, Maziga at Clark Quay, was playing Bollywood music! Needless to say, the party did not end soon that night.

Clark Quay is a popular area in Singapore which is home to several night clubs and restaurants. The area also plays host to several live music bands & has cafes serving cuisine from across the world.

Even though the lead actors of the movie couldn’t party every night due to their schedules, according to the director, Shashank Khaitan, the rest of the crew made the best of their time in Singapore & its vibrant nightlife.

Shopping

Shopping isa must when you’re in Singapore. So can Varun Dhawan & Alia Bhatt be anyfar behind? The actors who were shooting in the city during Badrinath kiDulhania ensured that retail therapy was a part of their schedule. While Aliaindulged herself at the swanky ION Orchard Mall on Orchard Road, Varun wentalong with her sister, Shaheen, to pick up stuff for his house.

But do youknow who shopped the most during this time? It’s none other than the Directorhimself! Shashank Khaitan turned into a shopaholic of sorts & hisindulgence was shoes, particularly sneakers!

ThrillRide

There aresome experiences that can never be forgotten, like your first rollercoasterride, for example. Actor Alia Bhatt will vouch for this one as her experiencedthe adrenaline rush of a rollercoaster for the first time during the shootingof Badrinath ki Dulhania in Singapore, where she rode this in UniversalStudios. The bubbly actor now describes this as the best part of her trip!

Ask herco-star in the movie, Varun Dhawan about his experience & his vote goes tothe Transformers ride, which he describes as, “Cutting-edge action & simplybrilliant!” The team took the ride 5 times, need we say more?
